Salted Dark Chocolate Chip Cookies
I've been looking for a simple chocolate chip cookie recipe in the internet and I came across Vedika's channel in YouTube. Her chocolate chip recipe looked easy enough to follow- especially for a newbie like me. She's still in high school- so I figured her recipes would be simple and not at all complicated. The pictures and videos in her blog and vlog looked so enticing! I've been following her channel since.
This is the first recipe in her channel that I have ever tried. So far, it was the best tasting cookie I have ever tasted. I can't believe I made it! It was so good! My kids literally gobbled up the first batch of cookies..OK, I also did! Honestly it was so good! Perfect combination of crispy, chewy, dark chocolate and butter. The salt is a must! It balances everything so nicely! :)
Original Recipe:

Ingredients:
- ½ cup Magnolia Gold unsalted butter, softened at room temperature
- ¼ cup washed sugar
- ¾ cup packed Hermano brown sugar
- 1 large egg
- 1 tsp vanilla extract
- ¾ tsp baking soda
- ½ tsp salt
- 1¾ cup Magnolia all-purpose flour
- 150-200 g Hershey's dark chocolate, roughly chopped into bite-size chunks
- sea salt for sprinkling
Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 350 F or 180 C and line a baking tray with wax paper.
- Cream together the butter and sugars (washed and brown) until light and fluffy.
- Beat in the vanilla extract and egg, until nice and smooth.
- Stir in the baking soda and salt.
- Add the all-purpose flour in batches, just to combine.
- Fold in the chocolate chunks until well-distributed through out the batter.
- Place 2 tbsp sized mounds of dough onto the prepared sheet, 2 inches apart.
- Sprinkle the tops with a pinch of sea salt before placing the tray in the oven for 10 minutes or until the chocolate has melted, the dough is slightly golden brown and less glossy than before.
- Cool for a couple minutes on a wire rack before serving.
Note: Before forming the cookie dough into balls, I chilled it in the refrigerator for a few minutes to firm it up- as advised by Vedika in her blog. It's the height of summer in Manila so the dough became too sticky to form into balls. Refrigerating it, did the trick.
