Turon / Lumpiyang Saging
Merienda time = Turon Time. I usually take afternoon walks with my daughter to burn off extra calories and to have some bonding time as well. But as we pass by a stall cooking and selling Turon and Banana Cue, my daughter usually takes my hand and literally drags me towards the enticing smell. Who could resist Turon? Ripe Saba Bananas sprinkled with brown sugar, wrapped in Lumpiya Wrapper and fried into crispy perfection. Crunchy, crispy on the outside..piping hot and sweet banana on the inside. Yummy! So much for burning off calories!
Ingredients:
6 pieces Saging na Saba (sliced into strips- 1 banana= 4 strips)
1 cup Brown Sugar
12 pieces Lumpia Wrapper (Spring roll wrapper-large)
Strips of Jackfruit (Ripe Langka)
Cooking Oil
1. Place one piece lumpia wrapper on a round plate. Sprinkle some brown sugar on the wrapper. Get two strips of banana and roll it on the brown sugar and lay them on the wrapper. Get a strip or two of langka and lay on top of the bananas. Wrap the bananas neatly. Do this on all of the bananas and lumpia wrapper.
2. Heat up a pan then add cooking oil. When the oil is hot enough, drop in the wrapped banana. Cook until wrapper turns golden brown and the brown sugar caramelizes. Make sure that the oil is hot enough so the wrapper won't absorb the oil. But take care not to burn the turon.
3. Drain the cooked turon on paper towels.
4. Serve hot. Try it with Vanilla Ice Cream! :)
